About Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club

Our club was formed in 1962 by a small group of old car enthusiasts to encourage the use of their vehicles whilst sharing their knowledge with each other, enjoying social outings together and participating in local festivities.

We have a membership of approximately 400 people, of all ages and backgrounds. Our members are mostly from the Clarence Valley area, including Grafton, Maclean, Yamba and surrounding villages.

Our events committee plans regular monthly outings, and extra events include inter-club outings, rallies and car shows.

Meetings are held on the last Sunday of each month, except in December, at our Club Facilites located in Jabour Park, South Grafton.

An annual swap meet is held in Maclean each September, Motorfest is held in August year and our annual two day rally is held in November during the Jacaranda Festival.

An extended rally, usually for a couple of weeks of touring, is planned for every second year and has included tours of Tasmania, the Great Ocean Road and South East Australia.

We welcome new members with vehicles 30 years or older, any make or model, to join us in sharing our passion. Enquiries can be made through our contact page for numbers, or by attending a meeting.

A Little bit of history....

The Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club was formed when a group of car enthusiasts pooled their ideas and on the 14th of March 1962 the Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club was born. The foundation members were as follows:

Max Schumacker

Bill Payne

Graham Fitzgerald

Peter McLennan

Sam Darke

Ray Hoad

The first meeting was held at the Grafton Tennis Club and the yearly subscription was ₤1/1/0 or one guinea which in today’s currency is $2:10.  Their first outing was at Bawden’s Bridge around August-September 1964; First President was Graham Fitzgerald and first Treasurer was Sam Darke.

The club experienced some difficulties and went into recess in March 1966 until May 1970, the subscriptions were then $2.00. Sam Darke remained Treasurer for some 16.5 years.

For many years the club meetings were held under Sam’s house, during the late seventies and into the eighties meetings were held in various members residents. In 1987/88 the club was down to 7 financial members.

The Club began to grow from these low number of members and meetings were held at the Brushgove Hall, midway between Grafton and Maclean.

In 2014 the GVMVC secured a long-term lease of Jabour Park, South Grafton which as formerly the home ground of the South Grafton Rebels Junior Rugby League Club.  The ground and facilities had not been in use for many years and and with a great deal of effort from GVMVC members all the facilities have been improved and updated.

In 2016 Development Consent was approved for camping and caravan use at Jabour Park.  All facilities, including a dump point are available at the beautiful, quiet location.

In 2019 a shed and two workshop hoists was completed and is available for use by the members.

Today, this venue has a modern clubhouse, fully equiped shed/workshop for members to use and a floodlit sports field whih is utilised by community groups and club events.

The GVMVC has experienced strong growth in recent years and we now have over 400 members or all ages and from all backgrounds. Members are mostly from the Clarence Valley area including Grafton, Maclean, Yamba and surrounding villages.
